Lisa’s Life Balance Manifesto!

There's something I'd like you to know about balance. Balance does not mean that your life is perfect. Balance does not mean that you spend perfect amounts of time making perfect choices at every perfect juncture and that you walk through it all effortlessly. Rather, balance is about knowing what you want and doing your best to live it. What that looks like will shift and change constantly.  Sometimes you'll do it well, sometimes you won't.  Balance is being able to consult your wisest self to make choices that fill your life with as much of the "right" commitments as possible and as few of the wrong ones as possible. It's really all that you can do.

Which brings me to the cartoon diva pictured at right. She represents something really important to notice. Women in our world are lauded for being super women and for juggling many tasks at one time. The image below represents the idea that you can "do it all" perfectly - that it is totally possible to juggle multiple major life commitments and to be completely calm and serene at all times while doing it. But this is not possible. In fact, it’s a dangerous illusion. It causes us to think that we are failing when we have way too much on our plates and we’re stressed. Aren’t we supposed to be like that perfect yoga chick, balancing everything effortlessly and chanting “Om” while doing it?

If you think about it, juggling is a funny thing to aim for. In essence it means that everything is ungrounded and up in the air! And don’t her arms get tired? All SIX of them?! Instead, I'll show you a much more sustainable pathway to balance - one that allows you to be your most beautiful, imperfect and real self along the way.  Because there's no such thing as a perfect state of balance, only balance in motion.  What a relief, eh?

I'm glad that you read the manifesto :0)
